Part One: Getting ready to fish

(Learning about democracy)

“Before we go fishing, we need to get ready proper way” – Uncle Jimmy

Let’s look at the big words and what they mean:

Democracy – When everyone gets a say in decisions that affect mob

Enrol – Getting your name on the voting list

Rights – Things you’re allowed to do, like voting

1: Checking our gear

Here are the five key learning points from DJ’s story about different ways to vote:

  1. There’s more than one way to vote, just like there’s more than one way to fish
  2. You can vote early or on election day – it’s about finding what works for you
  3. Just like we choose the best time to fish, you can choose the best time to vote
  4. Your vote counts the same no matter which way you choose to do it
  5. There’s always a way to have your say, even if you’re busy on election day
