How this Guide works

Five main parts

Like a good fishing spot has different places to throw your line, this guide has five main parts:

  1. Getting Ready to Fish (Learning about Democracy)
  2. Casting Your Line (Learning about Voting)
  3. Net Fishing Together (Learning about Parliament)
  4. Reading the Water (Understanding Issues)
  5. Teaching Others (Sharing Knowledge)

Each part has three learning times

Like how we might fish different times of day, each part has three learning times, and each learning time includes:

  1. The Story Card
  • Family stories connecting fishing to democracy
  • Thought bubbles showing what people are thinking
  • “True or Deadly” quick quiz
  • Questions for yarning
  1. Audio Recordings
  • Uncle Jimmy sharing wisdom
  • Marlee connecting to community
  • DJ bringing young perspective
  • Sarah sharing business insights
  • Abbey telling historical stories
  • Jake and Sammy’s sharing with us about each part of the Guide
  1. Learning Segments

Like segments of an orange, each learning time breaks into tasty bits:

  • The story and its messages
  • Things to think about
  • Things to try on your own
  • Things to try with family/mob
  • Ways to remember

Taking it in your own way

Just like eating an orange:

  • You can take one segment at a time
  • Each piece is sweet on its own
  • All parts work together
  • You can share with others
  • The learning flows through everything

You can:

  • Start anywhere that interests you
  • Listen to stories that connect with you
  • Try activities that work for you
  • Learn at your own pace
  • Share with family and mob

Remember:

Every part connects to the main ideas

Learning builds step by step

You can choose what works for you

Everything can be shared

Your journey will be unique
