Part Two: Casting your line

(Learning about voting)

“Your vote is like your fishing line in the water – make it count” – Marlee

2: Choosing your path

Here are the five key learning points from Uncle Jimmy’s story about making informed choices:

  1. Watch and listen before deciding – like reading the water before fishing
  2. Look at track record – just like knowing which fishing spots have been good before
  3. Think about what’s best for Country and community when making choices
  4. Some people make big promises but don’t deliver – like big splashes that don’t catch fish
  5. Take time to make good choices – just like we take time to learn proper fishing spots

Story Card #5

Uncle Jimmy explains how to make informed choices.

Your Reflections

  1. What does watching and listening really mean?
  2. How can you check someone’s track record?
  3. What’s best for your Country and community?

Stop and Think: Are you getting the right information?

During an election, you’ll hear lots of things about the voting process, like where and when to vote. Some of this info might not be true or could be misleading. Stop and think about the content and where it’s come from, then, ignore, or report it if you’re not sure.
