“Big mob with the net catches more than one person with a line” – Uncle Jimmy
4: Taking a trip to Parliament
Watch this video, where Jake and Sammy will take you on a trip to Parliament
Meet Jake and Sammy, two deadly Kimberley tour guides who took mob all the way to Canberra to learn about Parliament House. These young fellas have a special way of making democracy and politics easy to understand – mixing humour with straight talk, and always keeping it real.
When they’re not helping mob wrap their heads around voting and democracy, you’ll find them making sure everyone’s got their jumpers packed for the cold Canberra weather or calling “Everyone stay together!” as they guide groups through Parliament House.
With their relaxed Kimberley style and knack for storytelling, Jake and Sammy help connect our traditional ways of governance with modern democracy. They show how decisions made in that big white building on the hill in Canberra affect our daily lives back home in the Kimberley. Through their stories and explanations, they’re helping mob understand why it’s important to enrol and vote, and how we can all have our say in Australia’s democracy.
