Regional Governance and Advocacy
The Kimberley region is home to several Aboriginal organisations that play pivotal roles in regional governance and advocacy. For example:
Kimberley Land Council (KLC)
Established in 1978, the KLC serves as the peak Indigenous body in the region, working to secure native title recognition, manage land conservation and develop cultural business enterprises.

Kimberley Aboriginal Women's Council (KAWC)
This council focuses on empowering Aboriginal women, promoting leadership and advocating for rights and self-determination. In February 2025, KAWC launched its 2025-2027 Strategic Plan at Federal Parliament House in Canberra, emphasising the importance of Aboriginal women’s leadership in national discussions.

Kimberley Aboriginal Law and Culture Centre (KALACC)
Works to protect and strengthen Aboriginal law, culture, and ceremonies across the Kimberley. KALACC supports cultural governance and leadership for Aboriginal communities.

Advocates for and supports Stolen Generations survivors and their families, helping them reconnect with culture, community, and country.

Marra Worra Worra Aboriginal Corporation
The largest Aboriginal resource agency in the Kimberley, providing governance support, housing, economic development, and community services to Aboriginal people in the Fitzroy Valley.

Yawuru Native Title Holders Aboriginal Corporation (Nyamba Buru Yawuru – NBY)
